Parenting Killed Spontaneity

Rants

For someone who plans for a living (or used to), I love being spontaneous. There was a time not too long ago when I often considered booking a trip to the beach just because… well, it was Thursday!

Okay sometimes, I’ll admit, I did more than consider. I can’t help that I black out when daydreaming on Expedia and HAPPEN to enter my credit card information for a last minute babymoon…

I knew that having a baby would change things. Obviously. Little did I know that one thing Dorothy would change is our definition of “spontaneous.”

Like, when your favorite country singer announces he’s playing a FREE show in your city TWO DAYS in advance?

That’s now considered spontaneous. And unfortunately, it’s not going to happen.

Boo. Sad face.

Drink one for me tonight, Eric.

Frankly, there is no such thing as spontaneity for me anymore. If I want to go anywhere with my husband, sans kid, I first have to find a babysitter. And then pack a diaper bag. And then take a shower. And then put on make up (maybe). And then find my husband’s shoes/wallet/phone/keys for him (always). And… there just has to be a plan to even get out the door.

Parenting killed spontaneity.

I know you veteran mommies are laughing at me. But… come on. ERIC CHURCH FO’ FREE?! Dorothy has squashed my concert-going adventures for the next 18 years.

Or at least until May. Because I already made plans with the Brit Brit. 😀

Rant over.

I can’t help with the showering, makeup, or finding your husband’s belongings, but if you want us to come over to your place to babysit Dorothy you can eliminate the babysitting and diaper bag dilemma! You guys deserve a baby-less date night!

Seeing Eric Church is too important. Find a way to make it happen. I seriously know what you mean. I’m just too tired to be spontaneous anymore. I just want to sleep and be lazy when I have a chance.
