Well our first birthday party is in the books, and I do believe our little girl was properly celebrated. If the mountain of new toys and clothes aren’t evidence enough, surely the new 6 foot TEEPEE in my living room does it.
Our little lady is spoiled rotten.
For example, remember that time when I wasn’t going to throw an elaborate birthday party?
I made this poster just a few days before the party. Of course Dorothy would make me a liar by getting not one, but TWO, teeth in after I was done. So, scratch that. She has 8 teeth.

Yeah. Epic fail, mom. It looks like purple just exploded in our house – that doesn’t qualify as overboard or anything. But, the look on my baby’s face when she woke up from her nap and saw those streamers on the ceiling fans? It made every DIY project from hell worth it.
It was a classic birthday party. We invited our closest family and friends. I threw together two giant crock pots of chili, and grandma made a few trays of “funeral sandwiches” (similar recipe found here). We ate, we opened presents, and everything was going so well…
… until we decided to sing “Happy Birthday” to the birthday girl. She. had. a. MELTDOWN.
Maybe she had a case of stage fright, or maybe so many people singing to her was overwhelming. Maybe grandma had just accidentally hit her in the face with the Cozy Coupe door and she was startled.
Whatever the case was, the cake smash was not a success.
Thanks to the giant teepee and playtime with bestie Brynzlee, smiles returned and we had another successful attempt later in the evening. Seriously, though. If I were to have guessed before what Dorothy’s reaction would be to the cake smash, I would have easily said beastmode. Not epic crying, screaming and big lip pouting that was so incredibly funny that I cried from laughing. Mom of the Year.
We celebrated a beautiful little girl this weekend. I am so proud to be her mommy. Thank you to all of who came out and so generously showered Dorothy with love. She’s so lucky to have you all in her life!

The more purple the better. Love it! Nearly every one year I know actually doesn’t do a whole lot with their smash cake. Except for my son. He was in heaven. Everything looked great tho!!! Welcome to Toddlerhood!!!

Love that little lady! Thanks for having us. It was great seeing everyone and celebrating the little miss hitting the big O-N-E! For the record the funeral sandwiches were a big hit with this Roe fam.
