Ode to a Daddy-to-Be

One of the craziest things about pregnancy is the third trimester insomnia. I spend the majority of my day focusing on not falling asleep at my desk, only to have a nagging brain as soon as I hit my comfy king-sized bed.

What will Baby C look like?
Holy crap. I’m really about to be a mother.
What if my water was to break right….now?
Do I really think I can make it through labor and birth without an epidural?
(more on that in another post.)
What do I do with her once we bring her home?
Maybe I should read those parenting books.
I really don’t have enough diapers.

Last night was no different, however I realized one very important thing. I am not the only person about to embark on the life-changing (and terrifying) journey into parenthood. The man sleeping next to me may get to enjoy snoozing all the way through the night right now, but soon enough we BOTH will be on the front lines for Baby C.

Maybe it’s the way he’s perfectly okay with not having all of the answers, saying that, “we’ll figure it out.”
Or how he is constantly encouraging me to practice my breathing while sitting on the exercise ball.
Or how he talks to my belly – something like how Dory speaks “whale” in Finding Nemo.

Whatever the reason, today I feel slightly more at ease with the giant, and very permanent, leap we’re about to take. Parenting isn’t our first challenge – only our latest.

And, at least we’re in this together.
