Where Do You Junk? | All About That JUNK

Junk Banner

I’m always on the hunt for new junkin’ locations. Yes, antique malls, thrift shops, resale stores, salvage yards, barn sales and good old fashioned yard sales are EVERYWHERE around these parts, but where are the really, really good ones?

It’s like a never-ending scavenger hunt. I get almost giddy thinking about it. 🙂

If you live in or near central Indiana, this post is for you. Looking for a new place to shop? Today I’ll share my {current} top six junkin’ stores in the area – but only if you all promise not to buy all the good stuff before I get there, okay?

1 | Cabbages & Kings Antique Mall
– Crawfordsville, Indiana

Three stories PLUS a basement of junking goodness. If you’re looking for something old, rusty or peely, this is your place. The mall is set up in booths (with some better than others), but the best stuff is normally all the way up in the attic. You know, IMHO.

2 | Trinity Mission Thrift Store – Crawfordsville & Lafayette, Indiana

Trinity Mission is a real hole-in-the-wall, diamond-in-the-rough kind of place. Some days you find a TON of good stuff, and others you find exactly nothing. You wouldn’t believe how many things in the Cotten/Shelton family homes originally came from Trinity. The great part about shopping here is that a) it’s cheap, and b) your purchases support the Trinity Mission Life Recovery Program for men.

3 | Midland Arts & Antiques Market – Indianapolis, Indiana

If you’re looking for an all day adventure, Midland is it. Like, I can’t even describe how HUGE this antique market is. Many items are higher in price, but there is always something for all budgets. If you’re looking for a unique statement piece for your decor, I would definitely suggest Midland. They have some of the coolest/weirdest stuff.

And it’s, like, around the corner from Easley Winery. Bonus.

4 | Sell It Here & Sell It Here, Too – Lafayette, Indiana

Think… flea market. A little old, a little new, and a little what the hell? Over the weekend, I purchased a glass gallon jar, an antique jewelry tray, a $10 GIGANTIC mirror, and a brand-new Olaf book. My sister bought a red floppy hat. Mom bought a metal crate. You just never know with this place.

5 | Logan Village Mall
– Noblesville, Indiana
I love the Logan Village Mall simply for its charm. Really, most stuff in this place has already been finished – as in it started out as junk, and someone has already done the DIY for you. If you love the junk look, but don’t have a lot of time, this is a great option. Even if you like to do the work yourself, this is a great mall to get inspiration!

Also, last I knew, Logan Village Mall sold Annie Sloan Chalk Paint through ReStyled. Check it out.

6 | Carmel Old Town Antique Mall – Carmel, Indiana

So this one time, bestie Kristin and I were doing a little shopping at the Carmel Old Town Antique Mall when we came across this mid-century modern dresser set that I had been crushing on. The booth owner appeared to be cleaning out her space, so I asked her how much she would take for both dressers. She told me that I could HAVE THEM, if I carried them down the stairs so she didn’t have to (I mean, of course these stupid things were upstairs).

I wish I had video of Kristin and I hauling two dressers and all of their drawers down a huge flight of stairs, across the busy street, and loading them into my husband’s truck. I bet we looked freaking hysterical. And NO ONE offered to help us!

But! Carmel Old Town Antique Mall is what I would consider your classic antique mall. Everything is old. Everything is awesome. Oh, and they have a fantastic booth on the second floor with vintage clothes – if you’re in to that sort of thing.

This is awesome Samantha!! Great info. I have a booth at the Carmel Old Town Antique Mall, it’s definitely a classic antique mall. Believe it or not I have not been to Midland yet…So should I venture to Crawfordsville?

I would only do Crawfordsville if you’re already passing through. There just isn’t enough to warrant an hour drive each way. I would recommend Covington, though! They have a great downtown square and several good antique shops. Lafayette is also full of great junkin’ locations. 🙂

    Hi Samantha
I happened upon your blog by chance, and after reading it thought you might like the links to the Indiana Antiques Guide which is a quarterly publication of antique shops in Indiana. Including a few of the above mentioned shops that are your favorites!
