Cotten Tales

Welcome to MoCo | oh hey, friday

Random

19 Sep

I never thought I would see the day, yet it’s already happened. Courtny and I are almost official residents of MoCo again.

That’s Montgomery County, for those of you non-MoCo’ers. Word.

When I said that the 16-year old version of myself would die if she saw me now, I totally meant it. When I left for college, I had every intention of moving to the city and staying there. But here I am, surrounded by cornfields and lacking a Target. Life is a funny, funny thing.

As I spend my first homeless week in the town I was born in, I wanted to share some of my favorites from my new zip code. You know, for when you all come to visit me out here in the boonies.

I’m looking at you, besties.

uno | my backyard

When I used to look off my porch, I saw my neighbor’s house. It wasn’t an unattractive house, however seeing their front door from my back door was less than desirable.

We moved in an effort to regain some privacy. Now, the only people looking at me are the creatures of the corn. Literally.

Okay, so this isn’t my actual backyard, but it is my parent’s backyard on an early foggy morning. So peaceful, yet so creepy (if you’re my husband and scared of the aliens of the corn). My new backyard is similar, if you switch out the field for a tree line, but 90 percent of MoCo looks just like the above.

Serene.

MoCo is the home to the world’s best margaritas, according to me. One jumbo marg at Little Mexico will make your face numb and your mind happy happy happy. You just can’t go wrong – frozen or on the rocks.

I’ll treat you to one if you are interested in moving/painting/babysitting/visiting me…. Pretty please?

Can you spot Mr. Cotten, circa 2005?

The hubby and I are headed out on date night tonight… to the Southmont vs. Crawfordsville football game. This is a big deal here in MoCo. The social event of the season.

Go Mounties. Please win, so I can rub it in my husband’s Athenian-loving face.

In all seriousness, the high school sports rivalries in MoCo are excellent. Three small schools in such a close proximity make every event a passionate affair. Worth the price of admission, IMO.

My piggies are now an awesome shade of Vinylux’s Fine Vermillion. I’m feeling very fall-like.

In an effort to secure my spot as a cast member on the next Real Housewives of MoCo, I got myself a pedicure yesterday. Two incredible things about this:

1. Jami of Perfect 10 Nails does a really, really nice job.

2. My 90 minute pedicure only cost $40. That is unheard of in the big city.

I think I might like this place.

cinco | junk

MoCo is the home to some of my favorite junkin’ places. From Trinity Mission Thrift Stores and Trader Buck’s Flea Market, to Cabbages & Kings Antique Mall, I am always guaranteed to find a diamond in the rough (and something I don’t really need).

The stuff is so good sometimes that my mom and I have to go into survival mode. Like the time we carried Dot – IN HER STROLLER – up and down three flights of stairs in order to see all that Cabbages & Kings had to offer.

I can’t wait to spend all of my husband’s money and fill up our new house with new junk. I’m sure he’ll be thrilled… since we don’t have enough crap already. 😉

Yeah… that’s only a third of my junk just chillin’ in our old front yard…

Happy Friday, everyone. Don’t forget to book your next vacation to MoCo! I have a guest room!

Found you on the Oh hey Friday link up! I am from Indiana too! Although I love the corn fields, I get that freaky Children of the Corn vibe when I’m driving down a back road at night! Super scary! Have a great weekend!

I’m impressed that you managed to get a stroller up and down the stairs at Cabbages & Kings! Those stairs can be a bit tricky unencumbered.
