The Men Who Have Everything

DIY· Family

15 Jun

I’m speaking for Dorothy here, but I think we have some pretty spectacular dads in our life.

That would be Daddy, Papaw Shelton, and Poppy Jim 🙂

As amazing and awesome and wonderful and {insert positive adjective here} as they are, these men are BY FAR the hardest people to shop for on the planet. They have everything, and what they don’t have is a little outside the realm of the SAHM’s income.

Congratulations guys, you get macaroni necklaces. I’m kidding. Kind of.

For Father’s Day, Dorothy and I wanted to get our men something high-end. We released our inner Picasso’s and created one-of-a-kind, custom works of art using the appropriate medium of… finger painting.

I found this edible finger paint recipe from (where else) Pinterest. Smart move on my part, because most of the time Dorothy was shoving blue paint in her mouth.

recipe from hellobee:

1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 tsp salt
3 tbsp sugar
2 cups cold water
food coloring

Mix all ingredients except food coloring well with a whisk.  Set over medium low heat. Stir about 15- 20 minutes until thickened. Let cool. Distribute evenly into bowls or cups.

This finger paint is almost a gel consistency. It didn’t taste good (I tried it), but it wasn’t something I was concerned about giving to my baby. However I was a little worried that covering my kid (and me) in brightly colored paint may blow our cover, because I didn’t even think about the fact that this stuff could stain until after Dot started wiping on her face.

Mom of the Year. Right here.

Anyway, we got to work eating paint and making picture frame mattes.

Turns out my husband, who works right upstairs, is oblivious to what we do all day. My kitchen was destroyed. The high chair was unnatural colors. I even gave Dorothy a bath in the middle of the day – and he never said a word. To be fair, if he asked me about the bath I was going to claim a poop explosion.

Nakey baby!

In the end, I somehow managed to pull the whole thing together. Voila! Father’s Day gifts that were supposed to be easy but were really a lot of stinkin’ work!

I may look like I have it together, but you would be sadly mistaken.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s and grandpa’s out there. Enjoy your day!
I certainly enjoyed making your gifts with my pretty incredible daughter. 🙂

Just precious! You managed to put us mothers who didn’t even find the time to buy a card for our wonderful husband-fathers (aka: me) to shame. Thanks for setting my bar higher for next year. 😉

This will be great for me for next year! My baby should be about 6 months old for Father’s Day next year. I’m glad to know that there is an edible finger paint that I can make!

What a surprise! I was thinking they all got together and put your kitchen back together–you were bragging on them so.
    Beautiful frames–something to cherish forever.
    Brave Mommy.
    Love gang.
