Sleep, baby, sleep,
Thy papa guards the sheep;
Thy mama shakes the dreamland tree
And from it fall sweet dreams for thee,
Sleep, baby, sleep
This morning at 3:15 a.m., while rocking my sweet baby girl back to sleep, I felt a sense of peace. I actually was relaxed for the first time in a very long time. Maybe it was the glow from a quiet cul-de-sac, or the hum of Sleep Sheep, but something about holding my snuggly baby in her nursery was simply calming.
I almost didn’t want to put her down.
Dorothy’s nursery is one of my favorite places in our home. I spent a lot of time during my pregnancy trying to find the perfect pieces to incorporate into her space – probably my version of nesting. I didn’t want the room to be too girly, so I opted for a color scheme of navy, gray, white and coral. I wanted her room to have meaning, so we are using the same crib and dresser that once belonged to me and my two sisters.
It’s a serene space, with plenty of room for baby and plenty of comfort for mommy and daddy.

The nursery was a labor of love – mostly for my mother. Not only did she refinish the crib and dresser, she also painted the changing table AND the walls, helped me with the headband board, made bookshelves, and so much more. She’s pretty much amazing.
I adore every piece of this room. From the vintage brooches that Dorothy loves to look at, to the photo of Great-Great Grandma Dorothy, to her name painted lovingly on the wall by daddy – it’s perfect.
