You know, life with an infant is incredible.
Incredibly busy.
Incredibly frustrating.
Incredibly monotonous.
Incredibly boring.
Incredibly rewarding.
I can count on one hand the number of times I have left the house on my own. Dot and I have taken up permanent residence on the couch, and frankly I’m fine with it. Every day I set a goal for myself, whether it be to catch up the laundry, or order Christmas cards, or take a shower (I tend to fail on that one). If I want to take a trip to Target, I feel like I need a good 24 hours to plan out the logistics.
Ok, I may be exaggerating a bit… but not a lot.
Unfortunately, dropping off the face of the planet is not exactly conducive to exciting blog topics. But in an effort to document the few events that have happened recently, here’s a weekend recap… x 3.
1. Nettoc’s
Our first official family outing was (in the middle of a tornado) to celebrate the marriage of Courtny’s brother, Trace, and his husband Gary at Indy’s Kitchen. While I may have been packing a diaper bag to camp out in our neighbor’s basement only an hour before we left, the wedding reception went off without a hitch. Dorothy pretty much slept through the entire thing… as she was passed around from family member to family member to stranger to…
Quote of the night:
“Where is my kid?” – Courtny, candidate for Dad of the Year.
2. Lady Mounties
Dorothy may be the official good luck charm of the Lady Mounties. Not only did Auntie J play well, but Southmont won its first Sugar Creek Classic game… ever.
Future baller, right here.
3. Frozen Photos
Family photos with the Kochert side of the family turned in to quite the affair for someone with a three week old. You know, since it was like 20* outside.
But, Cammi of Ardent Owl Photography is amazing. I think Dorothy was outside for a total of 3.5 minutes, which made this momma very happy. Plus, the photos turned out beautifully (but don’t they always?).
Seriously, hire her. And be prepared for an upcoming post with our newborn photos. 🙂
4. Thanksgiving (Numero Uno)
When your husband has a large family, you tend to have lots of holiday gatherings around this time of year. So, following family photos, we had our first Thanksgiving dinner of the season.
Delicious.
Dorothy got some quality time with Aunt Madeline, and the rest of us fought sleep for the afternoon. Turkey and sleep deprivation are not a winning combo.
5. The Rest
This represents our typical evening – family snuggles by the fireplace. Normally one or more people are asleep, and you can almost count on a fussy baby between the hours of 6-10 p.m.
We’ve hit a lot of milestones over the last several weeks – Dot’s first bath, growing out of newborn clothes, and we even had our first poop explosion last night (let’s just say the couch and Courtny’s shirt were only minimally harmed).
Such a far cry from our lifestyle just a month ago… and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Your daughter looks so precious! Congratulations to u and your family! I totally understand your shower choices, to this day I have to either wake up before Seth or wait until his afternoon nap! Oh the life of mommies. Seriously though, the most rewarding role you will ever live.
