Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That | All About That JUNK

All About That JUNK

18 Feb

Junk Banner

So far on All About That JUNK I’ve only posted projects that take some work. Power tools, sanding, painting… all of it takes time, effort and elbow grease. Some of my favorite pieces are more meaningful because they were created by hand with my little Design Team, but I know those types of projects just aren’t for everyone.

I have a toddler. I get it. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Perhaps my favorite form of junking is re-purposing. You go to an antique store, salvage yard or flea market, buy something wonderfully junky and use it for something different than its intended purpose. Basically if you were born with even the slightest of a shopping gene, you’ll be able to get on board with this.

Today, let’s check out three re-purposed items that are sitting within footsteps of my desk. Because, again, ain’t nobody got time to photograph all the junk in my house when nap time only lasts two hours.

1. Cart to Coffee Table

If you’re looking for the least child-friendly item in my home, this is it.

My parents rescued this {extremely heavy, rusty and soild} metal cart from a dumpster at our local Tom’s Marine. I believe it was once used to haul chicken eggs at the farm, but I could be mistaken (and forced to make a retraction by my Design Team).

Regardless, a quick coat of clear sealant and a few strong men later, and someone’s garbage had become the Cotten’s coffee table.

2. Ladder to Blanket Rack

This glorious ladder once belonged to a great-grandpa, and lived in my parent’s barn throughout my entire childhood. Now it has been sawed in half, and holds my blankets in the living room. I would say it’s living a better life now.

And that peeling paint! *swoon*

3. Amber Jars to Amber Jars?

I picked up these amber jars from one of my favorite junk locations, Midland Arts & Antiques Market in downtown Indianapolis. They had a whole wall full of these, and looking back I wish I had grabbed more. I have no idea what they were used for originally (anyone have any ideas?), but they sure look pretty holding fake flowers in my master bedroom. 🙂

Do you have any re-purposed junk decorating your home? I want to hear all about it in the comments!

I just fainted and am now trying to recover from all that (envision me singing)” glory glory hallelujah” in your house. I want it all. I’m INSANELY jealous of that ladder. I’ve been dying for one for nearly a year and tom FORBIDS me to buy one because as he says it: “NO!….you will then “need” to buy all new “decorative” blanket that no one can then touch. Just NO” 🙁 Tom rarely says no…but he has laid the law on this one.
