Last weekend Kristin and I hosted a little baby shower for our dear friends Amanda and Cody, who are expecting their first baby in December. While Amanda already had a beautiful shower thrown by her sister in northern Indiana, Kristin and I decided to also have a smaller casual shower for many of the couple’s Indy-based friends.
When we found out that the daddy-to-be wanted to be involved in the shower, we went running with the idea of a couples (or co-ed) party. Our husbands were not so thrilled to learn they would be required to attend, but who says the women are the only ones who have to do these showers?! Kristin and I selected “A Baby Is Brewing” for our theme, and planned to incorporate craft beers into our celebration.
Because nothing says baby shower like a beer party.
As strange as it sounds, it made complete sense. And, for two hostesses who kind of put off all party planning until the very last minute, I think it came together rather nicely!
Kristin and I worked with Karli @ September FARM / Party Paper for all of our printables and invitations. Karli also did all of Dorothy’s party paper, and working with her on this unique concept was a dream. Highly recommend!
We wanted to have more of a “beer tasting” menu, but catering prices were astronomical. Instead, we whipped up some pulled pork sliders, buffalo chicken dip, fruits, veggies, gourmet popcorn, peanuts, puppy chow and more. It was kind of a random assortment of food, but no one complained!
For our drinks, we purchased several sample packs from local craft breweries in order to have a large variety. Of course, we had a few bottles of sparkling grape juice for the mommy-to-be!
I also took one total photo of our food and beer spread. #bloggerfail
We played a few games, because it was a baby shower and we had to (I’m not a fan of games, but these were painless!). We split the group into guys vs. girls, and did a baby trivia game and a baby version of The Price is Right.
Shockingly, Team Dad won.
Every party requires cake, obviously. Kristin picked up this delicious beauty from Heavenly Sweets Bakery in Noblesville, and it did not disappoint.
Since Baby Parks’ gender is still a surprise, we provided Team Boy and Team Girl mustaches. I’m firmly on Team Boy, but my daughter is obviously the complete opposite of me. 😉
We’re so excited to meet Baby P in just a few short weeks! Congratulations to the mommy- and daddy-to-be!
