Pregnancy Brain + A Whale of a Sale Giveaway!

Favorite Things· Rants

21 Apr

If you’re pregnant right now (because I’m pretty sure my entire Facebook feed is expecting in August), listen up.

Don’t be me.

Around the magical time when Courtny and I found out Baby C was indeed a girl, I naively took an Ohio shopping trip with my besties. This trip included an outlet mall…with baby stores.

Mix the excitement that comes with buying pink, and my girlfriends saying, “YOU MUST OWN THAT!” at every cute item, and needless to say I came home with more newborn and 0-3 month clothing than my child could ever possibly wear.

This was also the infamous shopping trip when Betty purchased “Bessie.” Peer pressure at it’s finest.

Dorothy wore newborn-sized clothes for approximately 3 weeks, and I bet I purchased 25 sleepers. I claim pregnancy-induced irrational thinking. Pregnancy brain is real, my friends.

Yes, you will change your kid 3 times a day, but keep in mind you do own a washer and dryer. Trust me, save your money and buy laundry soap instead. Your laundry loads will quadruple with just one baby.

Now that we’re in to 6 month clothing and 9 month pants (!!!), Dorothy has nothing to wear. When I was pregnant, I never imagined my baby ever fitting in such a big size, so I didn’t buy them. And then I gave birth to a giant. HA!

Family and friends keep bringing us the cutest clothes, but guess what? Cute won’t necessarily fit your everyday life with an infant. Babies really only need three types of clothes:

1. Onesies
2. Leggings
3. Sleepers

Throw some socks in there, and you’re done.

The most important lesson I can ever give you soon-to-be mommies is something I actually did manage to do in my pregnancy stupor: Don’t ever pay full price on baby clothes. Would you ever pay top dollar for a shirt you know you’re just going to puke on, and outgrow the next day? I don’t think so.

Luckily, I’m here to help all you mommies and mommies-to-be out.

logoWhale of a Sale is Indiana’s largest upscale consignment event, and the Spring Sale is taking place April 28-May 3 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. More than 50,000 items will be for sale, including all of the following and more:

  • Children’s Clothing- Newborn to Teen
  • Maternity Clothing
  • Toys, Games, Puzzles, Books and DVDs
  • Equipment including high chairs, pack and plays, swings, strollers, exersaucers, bouncy chairs, jumpers, pack and plays
  • Diaper Bags
  • Nursery/Baby items including monitors, bathtubs and diaper pails
  • Furniture including beds, dressers, rocking chairs and changing tables

The best part? All of these things are NAME BRAND, gently used, and deeply discounted. You can thank me later after you save yourself hundreds of dollars on what I lovingly refer to as “the necessary baby crap that has taken over my house.” 😉

All you veteran mommas out there should also take note – you can sell your items at Whale of a Sale and make a little extra money for YOU! Obviously you’ll just be buying more kid stuff, but can’t we dream the money would be for a pedicure?

Admission to the sale is free, but who wants to have second pickings? Whale of a Sale has graciously offered my readers FIVE PAIRS of tickets to the pre-sale event, Wednesday, April 30 from 5-8 p.m.

You can bet I’ll be there, selling approximately 50 newborn-sized onesies and buying 12 month leggings.

Enter the giveaway below to win! No need to be a momma – I know you grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, etc. always need baby stuff too. Winners will be announced on the Cotten Tales Facebook page on Monday, April 28.

I hope to see you there!

Im excited to check out what stuff I could get for the kids that they probably don’t really need. Really need clothes for my step son though.

I couldn’t agree more with your statement about not spending full price on baby clothes! It makes it even more depressing when you have to out them away because they’ve grown out of their cute little outfits. I’ve been looking forward to this sale to see what goodies we can find. 🙂
