We’re going to the islands, mon!
If you remember, my husband received the “Best Husband in the History of EVER” award when he surprised me with a Caribbean vacation on our anniversary. There is no place I love more than the white sands and turquoise waters!
Lucky for me, I had a monthly Stitch Fix box arriving right before we are due to leave on a jet plane. I sent a quick note to my stylist requesting anything that screams “sun, sand and never-ending piña coladas,” because a trip to the beach requires a few new outfits! Specifically, I requested something that could double as a cover up – like a kimono – and lightweight beachy dresses.
I had high hopes for this Fix, since Stitch Fix has been promoting vacation style on their own blog, and my Pinterest board has pretty much been on point. However, when I sneaked a peak at my shipment before it arrived, I was disappointed to see no kimonos, no maxi dresses, no printed shorts or palazzo pants, and THREE Pixley items. Not that I don’t like Pixley, but a variety would have been nice! In fact, I’m pretty positive that Stylist Julie didn’t read my note or look at my pins, since nothing I received seems super appropriate for a tropical getaway.
Boo.
Typically I request input from all of you before making my final decision on what keep and what to return, but due to the timing of this shipment I had to make my selections all by myself (with the help of my Mr., because let’s be honest – it’s him I’m looking to impress anyway!).
With that, let’s take a look at my June 2015 Stitch Fix review – {almost} Caribbean Edition!

Pixley Hillway Double Strap Tank – S – $48
I really want to like this tank, but it’s hard. I love the halter-like neckline, as I’ve noted in my last few Fixes. However, the high-low hem isn’t really my favorite. The “high” is too short for the majority of the shorts I own. Stylist Julie suggested skinny jeans… which is not very Caribbean, in my opinion.
I am a fan of the colors and print. Of all the pieces in this Fix, this top is the most appropriate for the beach bar… but I just can’t make myself like the cut.
VERDICT: Returned
Color: Red
My Pairings:
Necklace | Stitch Fix
Shorts | Old Navy (old)
Sandals | Target
Romolo Douglas Fringe Cord Necklace – $54
This necklace is a lot heavier than I expected – which is equivalent to quality where I’m from. However, for something made from beads and a leather braid, this is extremely overpriced. I have jewelry and accessories marked as “The cheaper, the better” in my style profile. $54 is absolutely ridiculous.
VERDICT: Returned
Color: Silver
My Pairings:
Earrings | Stella & Dot
Tank | Target
Pants | Target (my husband told me they look like his grandma’s couch, but for $5 I love them!)
Watch | JORD Wood Watch
Pixley Karolina Spaghetti Strap Polka Dot Dress – S – $68
While this dress is my husband’s favorite from the box, I initially wasn’t a fan. Once I got past the fact that this in no way screams “CARIBBEAN” (huge disappointment!), I realized that I do like this piece for other occasions, or a fancy French dinner on the island. I’m a sucker for polka dots, and I like the retro vibe in the neckline… I’m just not overly crazy about the way it accentuates my baby making hips.
VERDICT: Keep! Apparently the husband likes my hips. 😉
Color: Navy
My Pairings:
Necklace | Stella & Dot
Shoes | way too ancient to remember
Gilli Regan Striped Maxi Skirt – S – $58
I’m shocked to say that I like this maxi skirt. I’ve previously given negative reviews to jersey maxis from Stitch Fix, simply because I think they’re overpriced. I can normally get a similar skirt at Target for half the cost. However, the Gilli Regan skirt is partially lined, is super soft, and I could definitely get away with wearing this on the island. I just wish it was a different, more flowy fabric (and cheaper). Plus, I already own a purple maxi skirt.
VERDICT: Returned
Color: Purple
My Pairings:
Necklace | Gordmans
Tank | Target
Watch | JORD Wood Watch
Pixley Priya Diamond Printed Knit Back Tank – S – $54
I adore the colors and pattern of this tank. Throughout my Stitch Fix journey, I’ve realized I’m definitely more of a cool colors girl. I know I could get a ton of use out of this top, however I’m not sure I can get over the price! Like, really? $54 seems high for this basic of tank. Plus – dry clean only for the beach? Ha. That’s a good one.
VERDICT: Returned
Color: Green
My Pairings:
Necklace | Stitch Fix
Shorts | Clothing Swap Score!
Watch | JORD Wood Watch
Shoes | vintage, Hot House Market

To be honest, I’m super unhappy with this Fix. I couldn’t have been more specific with what I was looking for, yet the items I received look like this could have been my first shipment… not my 22nd. Some of the items are okay for every day, but they aren’t at all what I was looking for in terms of vacation. I didn’t keep anything from my last box, and I don’t love anything from this one. And I was having such good luck! I hate to be “that person,” but I definitely sent an email to Stitch Fix to request a different stylist.

I don’t think you’re in the wrong here. You couldn’t have been more specific in what you wanted. I was using esalon for my hair dye for a while because I loved that it is customized, however, when I put in a note for my next shipment to be a deep burgundy (I’ve dyed my hair burgundy from store bought hair dye and loved it but wanted to see if they could give me a better quality dye) and they definitely did not listen at all. It was not burgundy. So I stopped the shipments and picked up the hair dye I buy at the store.
