Hey there! I’m Samantha.

I’m a thirty-something working mom and wife from rural Indiana, with a professional background in journalism, public relations and event planning. I was a stay-at-home mom for four years, and returned to work full time as a Communications Coordinator for a public school corporation.

But, what about the real me? I enjoy travel, and have crazy dreams of owning my own travel agency someday. You can routinely find me in the Caribbean islands, but I also have a special place in my heart for the magic of Walt Disney World. I drink wine like it’s my job. I direct an award-winning, county-wide color guard program, which takes over any and all free time I might have had otherwise. I love a good steak, my car always looks like a war zone, and I’m probably the worst dance mom in the history of dance moms.

Oh, and I write.

I started Cotten Tales in 2013 before the birth of my oldest child. Over the years, this little corner of the internet exploded into an online community of fellow moms looking for recommendations, advice, and general rants about parenthood. In 2017, I unintentionally let this space die a silent death. But, we’re back now with a new chapter in my life. I’m here to take Cotten Tales to newer and greater heights, and I hope you’ll be along for the ride.

The ‘other’ cottens of cotten tales

My husband, Courtny, and I were high school sweethearts. We got married over a decade ago at the ripe old age of 20. If you’re considering getting married, and still below the legal drinking age, I encourage you to take your time. Marrying young isn’t for the faint of heart, however together through hard work and sheer luck we have managed to create a beautiful life for ourselves. Courtny works remotely as a senior designer for one of the largest technology companies in the world, and passionately coaches collegiate track & field on the side. He’s my other half, my complete opposite, and the only person I want by my side.

We’re the proud parents of two beautiful daughters.

Dorothy is six, and preparing to start first grade in the fall. She’s creative, extremely artistic, and a wonderful dancer. We’re painfully alike – so much so that we butt heads constantly – but deep down I think we have a unique understanding of each others’ quirks. Dorothy is the pickiest of eaters, and has a sweet tooth that could rival Willy Wonka. She loves Nightmare Before Christmas, Minecraft, slime, Legos, unicorns, the ocean and “big kid Disney Channel.” She’s growing up far too fast for my liking.

Frances is four, is about to start full-day Pre-K, and is the complete opposite of her older sister. She’s hilarious, and has an extremely expressive face. This makes up for her lack of talking when she was younger, because she can clearly communicate without words. She is much more relaxed than Dorothy, and can entertain herself for hours. She loves dresses, Frozen and Onward, pizza, and is 110 percent a Daddy’s Girl.
