Guys, I’m so excited! Today is the first day of my weekly “maternity leave” guest blogger series, and I’m thrilled to have EIGHT awesome ladies to introduce to you over the course of the next two months. New reads for you + a little extra QT with my new family of four for me = WIN!
We’re starting this series a week early, because our first guest blogger is just as pregnant as I am! Fun fact: Adrian of AK Avenue and I go all the way back to college, where we were both editors of our university’s student newspaper. We spent an outrageous amount of time sitting side-by-side in the newsroom, won the publication’s first national award together, and now we’re both due to give birth to beautiful baby girls within days of each other. Future Greyhounds? I think so.
Check out Adrian’s tips for staying fashionable while pregnant below, and don’t forget to check out AK Avenue for more fashion advice!
Hi there, my name is Adrian. I write for a fashion and lifestyle blog called AK Avenue. AK Avenue is more than a blog; it’s a platform where women can discover inspiration and implement it in their everyday lives. I like to have fun with my style. I can find inspiration anywhere from ice cream to comic book superheroes. I don’t like to limit myself. I encourage my readers to style outside the box. In addition to fashion, I also chat about my life including updates on my first pregnancy, travel adventures, or a good ole rant. I hope to see you over at AK Avenue soon.

When you’re pregnant you quickly learn that your belly is the center of attention, which makes it your best accessory. I know it’s dreadful to even think about putting on clothes when your belly is in full bloom, but if you’ve got it flaunt it ladies.
Opt for skirts made of stretchy materials that hug your curves or long form-fitting tops that make your belly larger than life. Everyone will be staring anyways, right? Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you should lose your sense of style.
Here’s how you can be fashion savvy while pregnant:
Stay Inspired
Sometimes being presentable is the last thing on your hyperactive mind, but seeing other fashionable women can help. Social media, magazines, and blogs offer so much inspiration for pregnancy fashion. My favorite outlet is Pinterest. I log on, search, and discover so many different styles. I can also save the outfits I love and come back later to be reminded of them.
Be A Brick House
Don’t be afraid of the pounds. I’ve gained more than 35 pounds while pregnant. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been. At first that was overwhelming for me, and it took a shot at my self-esteem. I handled it the best way I could, which means embracing the pounds. Go ahead and wear that spandex top or dress and strut that baby weight.
Stick to your personal style
Well I hope you know what styles you already like because being comfortable is a great ego booster, especially during this time in your life. I love maxi dresses and loose dresses so I’ve gravitated to those during pregnancy. The best part is they are simple and easy to throw on.
Try Something New
I know I just told you to stick to your personal style. I’m such a hypocrite, but hear me out. Pregnancy comes with a new body. Maybe something you normally wouldn’t like will look great now. I didn’t like leggings before pregnancy. It’s true! They were itchy, uncomfortable, and I didn’t like how my legs looked in them. Now I’m all for them. Crazy I know! Take my word for it and try something out of your comfort zone.
Be Your Biggest Cheerleader
You have to like what you see in the mirror. Don’t beat yourself up! Remember your mood not only affects you, but also your precious baby. Tell yourself how gorgeous you look. Write encouraging words to yourself on notepads and hang it where you can see it everyday. You’ll be surprised how much that can help. When you feel good you want to look good. You are beautiful darling, so go out there and show the world.
There you have it friends. Those are my tips on how to look and feel good during these hectic, but extremely exciting nine months. Don’t forget confidence comes from within. Please share any additional tips you have in the comment section.
Good luck!
