Yes, Dad, the title of this post is spelled correctly. 😉
Courtny and I had decided not to take a vacation in 2013. Things were pretty unpredictable for the first six months of the year, and with Baby C on her way, we determined that we really couldn’t justify taking a trip.
Then, the month of May happened. Our lives were turned upside down. We learned the importance of living each day to its fullest, and having no regrets.
So I booked a last-minute trip to our favorite Caribbean island. It turns out that our little “Babymoon” was exactly what the doctor ordered…for all of us.
Sint Maarten is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It encompasses the southern half of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, while the northern half of the island constitutes the French overseas collectivity of Saint Martin.
This was our second trip to SXM (our first being in January 2012). In 2012, we drove all over the island – taking in a new beach every day. We enjoyed Sint Maarten Guavaberry Rum, had the most amazing ziplining experience at Loterie Farm and parasailed over Orient Bay.
Obviously, our Babymoon had fewer activities and even less rum.
In fact, this was our trip in a nutshell.
We barely moved from this spot for six days. Every day looked pretty much the same:
- Sleep in (unless you’re Courtny and “need” to work out on the beach)
- Eat breakfast
- Swim
- Lay in the sun and read
- Swim again
- Eat lunch
- Repeat morning activities
- Eat dinner
- Sleep
Oh, of course we had grand plans to visit all the places we wished we had gone last time (or return to some of our favorite places). We practically stayed on Simpson Bay our entire trip. And it was PERFECT.
1. The view from our condo, Ocean’s Edge. 2. Ok, Courtny did get to enjoy some rum… 3. Our new favorite beach bar, Karakter. 4. Just the three of us, and my virgin pina colada.
1. Courtny attempted to wakeboard. He failed. 2. Rockin’ a bikini at 25 weeks pregnant. 3. Baby on board. 4. Coast Guard drill off of our beach with a storm rolling in. 5. My love. <3
Courtny was relaxed. I slept well. Baby C behaved. We couldn’t have asked for more. Thanks SXM. We’ll be back soon.
If you’re ever thinking of visiting Sint Maarten, I would be happy to be your travel guide!
