Cotten Tales

Easter Recap + Mom Fails + Photo Dump

Family· Weekend Recaps

6 Apr

Easter10

Some bunny loves the Easter Bunny…

Dbunny, that is.

Easter Sunday was an eventful day for our little Cotten family, but it was wonderful all the same. Dorothy woke up to her Easter basket from the Easter Bunny, promptly busted open an egg full of jellybeans, and screamed, “WOW!”

I just let her eat the jellybeans off the floor, because it was so darn cute.

We headed off to church, and decided Sunday was as good of time as any to test Dorothy in the nursery. Courtny and I have been going back and forth on enrolling her in a local Parent’s Day Out program, and Sunday’s hour-long church service seemed like the perfect opportunity to have a trial run. We took her in early, played with her until she forgot we were even there, and then snuck out.

Let me set the scene for you.

Courtny and I choose seats in the middle of the church. It’s Easter Sunday, so there are easily 500 people there with us. The service begins.

We sing.

We pray.

We watch a really cool introductory video.

The preacher arrives on stage to begin the sermon, and begins with this:

“I want to welcome you all to Woodland Heights. We are happy to have so many guests attending today, but there is one today in the nursery – a little girl named Dorothy – who really wants her daddy. Courtny? Where are you?”

Oh yes. We just got called out on Easter Sunday, by the preacher, in front of the entire congregation.

Apparently they had been flashing her number on the little screen, but I didn’t see it due to the video and Courtny didn’t know what her number even was. Luckily, we know the preacher well and he knew how to find us (not only did he coach Courtny in high school track, but he happens to be the minister that married us). Courtny spent the rest of the service playing in the nursery, while I sat by myself and wondered if I should’ve gone too.

Hi. I’m picking up Dorothy and her daddy?

We came home from church, and I made a lunch of strawberry feta spinach salad and chicken-and-noodles for my husband’s family. Of course Dorothy got lots of Easter goodies from her grandparents, which got even more “WOW!”s. After we ate, we all headed outside to do a little egg hunting…

…or in Dorothy’s case, play with dead grass.

I wish I could say Poppy Jim was helping Dorothy find eggs in this photo, but in reality Dorothy is just playing with the dead plants.

After nap, we then headed out to my parents’ house for more dinner and ANOTHER Easter egg hunt. By that point, Dorothy was getting the hang of this egg thing (i.e. “I know these have jellybeans in them).

If you’d notice, Dorothy’s dress was adorably poofy all day long. That’s because only after dinner did I realize that the diaper cover that came with the dress was still attached to the inside lining.

I told you. #MomFail.

Easter9

But can we talk about the little old lady cardigan? 🙂

Perhaps the main attraction of the whole day was my dad’s new drone. It’s meant to be used to look at crops from above the field, but it also works well as a babysitter. My dad and Courtny flew that thing all evening, and Dorothy just watched with amazement.

Can you spot the drone?

That would be my husband showing Dorothy how to cheat at an Easter egg hunt, using a drone.

And that, my friends, is how you celebrate Easter while subsequently wearing out a toddler. 😉

How was your Easter Sunday? Anyone else have an epic Easter mom fail?
