As a parent, I’ve discovered that there is nothing better than watching your child experience the magic of the holidays. Sure, when I was a kid I thought the Easter Bunny bringing us baskets of goodies and hiding Easter eggs was the best thing in the world. Now, being the Easter Bunny is one of the highlights of motherhood.
But what surprises do you plan for an 17-month old? Why are toddlers always so hard?
I’ve learned that this time of year will always call for new shoes. I remember my grandparents buying my sisters and me new church shoes for different seasons – white shoes in the spring, and black shoes in the fall. I think those memories have caused me to start my own shoe tradition for Dorothy on Easter.
And, conveniently, she outgrows shoes like no one’s business.
I have been crushing on these Freshly Picked moccasins since Dorothy was born. But, with them being a little on the pricey side, I decided to wait until she was actually walking (and needed shoes) before I took the plunge. I purchased these Salt Flats mocs, and I can now confidently tell you that the price matches the quality. These little shoes are beautiful! And, I’m pretty sure we need to invest in every color (I particularly like Aruba and Heirloom).
Dorothy has more toys than we know what to do with… and she plays with exactly none of them. The last thing I wanted to do was buy her a toy to stick in her Easter Basket, only to never see it leave the toy box. That’s a joke. Nothing stays IN the toy box at our house.
So, instead I decided on a Disney Princesses coloring book from Hobby Lobby. Dorothy loves to draw with chalk on the chalkboard walls in daddy’s office, and we’ve just introduced her to coloring. Maybe the pretty princesses will keep her crayons on the paper, and not in her mouth?
I also threw in these cute egg-shaped sidewalk chalk from the Dollar Tree (similar here). I’m always looking for something fun to do outside, and these chalks might just be a hit. If anything, it will keep her entertained and away from the road… I hope.
Obviously no Easter Basket is complete without a chocolate bunny, and this Hershey’s princess bunny is super adorable. Don’t worry – the Easter Bunny is also stocked with Peeps and Starburst Jellybeans. 😉
It looks like Sunday will be warm enough for an outdoor Easter egg hunt, so I think we’ll try our luck with that as well. Although, I’m not getting my hopes up because, well… toddlers.
